Does the sound Chitty, chitty, bang, bang reverberate in your ears? A catchy tune for most, but when this sound exhales from your vehicle, in all probability it is an indication that the time is good for that muffler auto repair. A muffler not only suppresses sound but plays a pivotal role in obtaining a quiet emission-free exhaust system. So it is instant that all road-worthy vehicles have a muffler in right form, so as to minimize both, sound and air pollution.

A few do-it-yourself fanciers can undertake a fundamental muffler auto repair themselves. For instance, (after switching off the engine), the vehicle owner can check if the automobile s heat shield is loose and then merely fasten it. Or if the heat shield is bent, the vehicle owner can re-align it, with the utilize of pliers or a screwdriver, and thus eliminate the trouble with ease. Whenever the procedure is much more complicated than the above it is always a good idea to visit muffler auto repair shop. Most of these centers not only fix broken mufflers, but provide the alternative of muffler modification, which is a particular boon to racing enthusiasts.

To find a list of muffler auto repair service stations, one just has to run a instant search on the cyberspace, bearing in head that there could be a few false scammers, amidst the some authentic repair centers advertised on-line. Another viable alternative would be to get a trusted auto-mechanic or someone in the automotive repair industry, to recommend a satisfactory muffler auto repair shop in your neighborhood. Also, a first-hand visit to a few local muffler auto repair centers would enable the vehicle owner to gauge the competence and reliability of the service providers, with relative ease.

Also, before engaging in that muffler auto repair, it is wise to be equipped with some knowledge with respect to the cost of installing or repairing a muffler. This will enable the vehicle owner to decide whether it is more viable to use Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) functions or after-market functions. After which, a cost quotation should be got from the muffler auto repair service station, whilst ensuring that it includes the relevant automotive part, labor, and any required hoses or pipes. A minimum warranty should also be got whenever possible. This will enable both the vehicle owner and the muffler auto repair shop to arrive at a mutually satisfactory agreement, and a long term service relationship, which would indeed be a boon to both.

The history of the Rover V8 engine started its life in America in 1961 as the Buick 215. The engine block is an all alloy affair. Its main advantage is its light weight at only 144Kg. The Oldsmobile in those days also shared the same engine. Oldsmobile also made as many engines for their cars.. There were coolant and oil problems if the correct antifreeze was not used, and the reality that alloy engine was quite expensive to build than its iron stablemate. Buick and Oldsmobile decided to cease production of this all aluminum engine because of some of these reasons. Buick then went on to make an iron alternative of the engine and a cut down V6 model that went on to 2008.

The head of Rover engineering J Mc Williams went to the USA in 1964 to see about bringing the Buick engine back to the UK. Over at Mercury Marine trying to negotiate a deal to sell gas turbine engines and diesel engines for Rover, J Mc Wlliams then discovered the Buck engine. The potential was seen for the very light weight engine to be used in some of the British motors of the day. Including replacing the heavy weight 6 cylinder engine of the P5. After many talks with GM, Mc Williams finally persuaded GM to sell its tooling to Rover so they produce the engine. To help get Rover set up with the tooling, retiring engineer Joe Turley of Buick then moved to the UK. The Rover engine became a great success.

First featured in the Rover P5, the engine went on to be used in the smaller P6 model and then in the Rover SD1 where t produced nearly 200bhp in the Vitesse model. The engine also appeared in Range Rover cars. The engine was widely sold by Rover to small car builders, and has appeared in a wide variety of vehicles. Rover V8s feature in some models from Morgan, TVR, Triumph, Land Rover and MG, among many others.

The engine was first put into the Warick 350GT, but for some reason it never saw the light of day. The Rover V8 has also been used in light aircraft and became a big hit on the custom scene. The Rover V8 was even used in the US for some of their sporty cars, such as the Chevy Vega and MGs.

Buick themselves started using the same aluminum heads on their 300 cubic inch engine with a longer crankshaft to lighten and increase power of their engine back in 1964. This meant that with minor modifications these heads could be used on the Buick 215 or Rover engine blocks to produce a higher power output, this makes for a very light weight engine with even more power. In 2005 the MG Rover Group closed its factory gates and therefore a halt in production of the original Rover V8, which was in production for around 40 years. The Rover SD1 was the last Rover produced car to have the V8 engine in it.

The Rover V8 remained with Land Rover and was used in their Range Rovers and Discovery’s until they were sold to Ford by BMW

. Land Rover still desired the production of the V8 to continue on. So they arranged production to carry on with MCT an engineering manufacturing company. Although Land Rover then switched to using Jaguar AJ-V8 engines for their newer cars, MCT continued limited production of the engine for the indeterminate future, supplying engines for aftermarket and replacement use.

Where it Starts

If you have an auto, you just cannot rest, thinking that it will run all the time. The two things you need to follow most importantly are auto repair and maintenance. You should look to keep your car in good shape. A visit to the repair shop when your car has broken down is just not what this means. It may be too late by then to lower your costs. Cars maintained regularly at reputed workshops will do more than just leave them in good working order. Mishaps that are least expected will be avoided with this help. Some of the tips mentioned here may perhaps make your life easier to keep your car in good working order.

Check around

If you have a repair shop that you do business with on a regular basis, you have your work cut out for you. If you do not have a repair shop that you do business with, you will have to find one by looking around. There are a number of repair shops that you can drive your car into for maintenance. What you will need is a good repair shop that you can trust will understand the problems you face and take care of them. Mechanics and repair shops cannot be changed every time you face a problem as it can get very expensive. This proves to be very expensive in the long run. Always deal with a single repair shop or mechanic to give yourself the advantage of better prices. The treatment you get will be as a loyal customer and you will get better attention from the people you deal with.

Consult a Mechanic and Get the Quotes

If you are looking to go into a repair shop for the first time, make sure you get a quote from a certified mechanic. As the maintenance of your car will depend on the quotes that you receive, this is one of the most important things you should do. Talk to different repair shops without any hesitation before you settle on one of them. All quotes received should include costs of labor and parts that may be required. Get a quote for a particular job if the problem is minor. It is necessary that you make the mechanic understand what you are trying to explain by talking to him. You have to be sure that you both understand what is happening. Developing beneficial two way communications will help both of you.

Look for the Best Repair Shop

As you will be looking to establish a long term relationship, you will need to find a company that is considered the best and is within your budget. Establish what you need in the first place and explain your requirements to the shop. You will need to get the contract complete with prices of parts and labor, if you are looking for a monthly maintenance contract. Finally be sure that the chosen repair shop has an unmatched reputation in the market. These costs may well be justified if the services offered are above industry standards, even though they may appear more upfront. If the job is not done properly you will end up paying more money.

The Dodge Ram has long been an icon of US motoring. Over the past 30 years it has progressed through four different generations of models, and no end to its popularity is yet in sight. This mighty car, that packs the presence of a full sized pickup truck, remains a firm favorite with the public.

Built to last, the Ram was a mighty vehicle in its original form with a choice of powerful engines and a variety of cab layouts and design which, coupled with many interior trim options, made customising yours to your own ideals easy, yet the current model, introduced for the 2009 model year, is one of the finest vehicles on the roads of the USA.

The fact that they are so well made means that you can still find many older models on the road today. Even the mighty Dodge Ram needs some parts replacing sometimes though. Fortunately, the widespread availability of genuine aftermarket Dodge Ram replacement parts makes this no major problem.

One method of getting hold of the best Dodge Ram replacement parts is through online sellers. While local dealerships will undoubtedly stock the latest parts for the latest models, there are several outlets on the internet that are solely dedicated to supplying Dodge Ram parts online. For ease of use, simply type ‘Dodge Ram parts’ into your search engine and you will find a wealth of available suppliers.

Yes, looking online first is, as with most other purchasing decisions, the best way to go. It is quick, simple and secure to buy the Dodge Ram parts you require; whether you need mirrors or lights, engine parts or radiator cooling fans, there are many suppliers of aftermarket Dodge Ram parts with comprehensive websites and online catalogues for you to look through.

Should you decide that the dealership route is the one that you want to take, remember to put aside a good day or so to do some, because they tend to have only have limited stock and prices can vary significantly. You will therefore probably find yourself having to visit a few dealerships even if you only require one or two Dodge Ram replacement parts.

The availability of quality aftermarket Dodge Ram parts means that your pickup can be made to look exactly as you want it, and suppliers of online Dodge Ram parts understand the needs of the driver. A final point to bear in mind though, make sure that you use a reputable Dodge Ram repair parts supplier, such as one that a friend of yours has previously used or one mentioned in an article that you have read. Do so, and you will be certain that your Ram remains running sweetly for years to come.

If replacement parts are certified and meet OEM standards, you can relax in the knowledge that you have ordered the best Dodge Ram aftermarket parts available online. There are many quality sites that offer Dodge Ram Parts, but www.dodgeramreplacement.com/pickup is one place where you can find part reviews along with the exact part numbers that fit your exact model year.

Although we are in the depths of a full blown recession many people still crave the latest hot new cars. No matter how much people are struggling they still love to go out and splash out their hard earned cash on a full blown top of the range motor.

Lets just consider a handful of reasons why people are willing to put themselves in debt simply to drive the latest model of flashy car.

Peer Pressure
This is most probably the reason many people are buying new, prestigious vehicles. What is worse than going out in an old heap and then seeing your friends or a family member driving a fantastic top of the range car. People don’t want others to see that they are struggling, so they go out and buy a new vehicle even though they can’t afford to show everyone they have made it in there lives.

Show off
A lot of people want to purchase a new vehicle to show off, they adore all the attention they get from having people look at them when they stop next to traffic lights or pull up in a crowded area.

Speed
Some people love cars that go fast and they know that by buying a new car it will ultimately fulfill there thirst for driving at high speeds. New vehicles tend to be capable of much higher speeds. Even diesel vehicles are quite fast these days.

Relaxation
A lot of people just buy a new car simply for the comfort and relaxation factor. This is especially true if people are travelling a long way on a regular basis. They want to relax and have all of the latest technologies that are open.

Collectors
Some people are quite lucky to be well off. These lucky people tend to have a habit of just buying new cars and collecting them. Their newly purchased cars can end up unused, sitting on the drive and ultimately sold off after a few short months. But to many wealthy buyers this doesn’t matter as they have the money available to feed their collecting habit.

There is nothing wrong with buying a new car; I myself tend always look at new vehicles. But make certain that you have the necessary finances in place that will enable you to pay for the vehicle because if you don’t you will probably end up getting yourself into a lot of debt and effectively the debt company may well take back the vehicle from you, leaving you with nothing.

I recommend car leasing as a sensible way to finance the acquisition of all new vehicles. I have my 5 series BMW on a very affordable BMW lease deal and all of my companies commercial vehicles are on very cheap van lease contracts.

Transmissions are one of the most complex systems under the hood. In fact, that’s the reason many auto repair garages will refuse to work on them. Some might perform minor repairs, but will refer you to a transmission shop for anything more extensive. There are a lot of parts involved in making sure that the system runs smoothly and mechanics are loathe to cause bigger problems.

This level of complexity often makes transmissions one of the least understood components to drivers. Adding to the confusion, they’re designed differently. Some are designed for front wheel drive while others are designed for rear wheel drive. In this article we will look at some of the differences. I’ll describe your transmission’s job and help you decipher the pros and cons of a RWD and FWD.

Understanding Its Job

Your car’s engine generates power through its 4-stroke combustion process. That power must be delivered to your drive wheels in order to turn them. Also, it’s worth noting that your engine has a range of RPMs in which it operates at maximum efficiency. Your transmission’s job is two-fold. First, it needs to deliver the power generated by the engine to the drive wheels. Second, it needs to perform this task while keeping your engine operating within its optimal range of RPMs.

This is accomplished through several gears. In low gears, the engine must turn more quickly in order to power the wheels. In higher gears, it doesn’t have to work as hard. The transmission helps the engine advance from first gear to higher gears while keeping your car moving at higher speeds.

RWD Versus FWD

If your car has rear wheel drive, the transmmission will be located on the back part of your engine. A drive shaft will connect it to the rear axle. Your engine generates power and turns the crankshaft, then that power is transferred through the transmission, then to the drive shaft, and then ultimately to the rear axle. The rear axle spins, which causes your tires to rotate.

While the concept behind the power flow is similar, a front wheel drive car works a little differently. The transmission is still located near the engine. With the final drive, it forms a transaxle. A front axle connects to the transaxle, which in turn delivers power to rotate the front tires.

To keep the explanation simple, I’ve ignored the torque converter. What really happens is that power travels from the engine, through the torque converter, and then into the transmission. The other components work as described.

Is One Better Than The Other?

Modern vehicles usually have front wheel drive. An FWD weighs less, costs less to manufacture, and usually delivers higher fuel efficiency. On the other hand, an RWD distributes the weight more evenly across a car’s frame, which improves braking ability. Plus, because the design is less crowded than an FWD, it’s easier to service without taking everything apart. In the end, when choosing between RWD and FWD, consider your driving needs and the factors on which you place a high priority.

The summer is over and its time to return to University for more boring lectures and boozing too much.

At least this year I’ve managed to save some useful cash after working like a dog all summer. I’ve been dead jealous of my mates who’d headed off to Europe and various other places. But at least I now have a healthy bank balance, unlike the state it was in at the start of the summer.

I started the summer with a cleaning job working in various Heathrow hotels. The work was really hard with a slave driving boss and really early morning starts. I take my hat off to the hard working people who do that work all year round.

But what I really wanted was a driving job as I’d passed my driving test during the previous academic year. So when a friend told me about another opportunity over at Stansted airport I was dead keen. I became a valet, parking and retrieving cars for people in the maze of Stansted airport parking lots. This was a great job, giving me the opportunity to drive all sorts of fantastic cars. From really smart BMWs right through to classic Morgans and people gave me some great tips.

It was while working there that I met a guy who was so impressed with my driving that he asked if I’d like to work for his car leasing firm. The pay was a lot more than I was getting as a car parking valet and there was a really generous bonus scheme. So after only two weeks working as a valet I was off to yet another job. This time delivering cheap lease cars to customers throughout the south east.

I really loved this job and my ex-boss has told me that there will be a job there for me during the Christmas and Easter holidays. I enjoyed the work so much that I am thinking about going to work for him when I finish my degree next year. Definitely a summer well spent.

A growing shortage of used cars has resulted in an increase in their value this year. CAP Motor Research Ltd., responsible for providing up to date vehicle valuation data to the automobile industry, has said that the normal 15% depreciation in used vehicle prices has been reversed in 2009.

Normally there is a steady depreciation in the prices for used cars. But 2009 has seen used car prices actually increasing month to month by about 3.5%. This is causing the value of used cars to actually increase.

This trend is bad news for used car dealers and those looking to buy a cheap motor, but its great if you are selling your old car. The increase in the prices of used cars throughout 2009 is completely unprecendented. Some used car prices have increased by as much as 25 to 30%.

It has been suggested that the effects of the UK car scrappage scheme on used car prices will be short-lived and not last. When funding for the car scrappage scheme ends in October it is likely that we will see a reversal in this trend.

The car scrappage scheme was introduced in an attempt to boost the ailing auto-industry. For some car manufacturers the scrappage scheme has been a big success. Government incentives have encouraged those considering a replacement car to choose a new model.

Earlier this year it was reported that new car prices were actually lower than used car prices in the UK. This was caused by a falling demand for new cars due to the recession and fewer used cars coming onto the market.

There has also been a shift in the way that UK drivers are financing their transport needs with many opting for cheap lease car deals or attractive van contract hire deals rather than outright purchase.

For a great Vauxhall contract hire deal visit www.nationwidevehiclecontracts.co.uk

Recommendations regarding when to change your vehicle’s air filter fall into a surprisingly wide range. Some experts claim that doing so every 3,000 miles helps to ensure that your vehicle’s engine is performing as efficiently as possible. At the other extreme are proponents that claim that changing it every 30,000 will suffice. In truth, neither is entirely correct. It;s based on more factors than the standard 3000 miles indicators. What’s more, this is one area in which it might behoove you to ignore your owner’s manual (I’ll explain why in a moment).

It’s worth reviewing the air filter’s job: it catches dirt and debris before foreign elements can gain access to your engine. This is important. When foreign particles enter the engine, they can accumulate and cause expensive damage. By filtering them, your engine can remain free of debris and perform more effectively.

In this article, I’ll explain why your driving circumstances will influence the frequency with which you change your air filter. I’ll also describe its value in the context of fuel injection systems.

Consider Your Driving Situation

Depending on the drivers, car are driven under many different extreme circumstances. For example, you might drive in an area that is not exposed to a large amount of dust. If that’s the case, you might be able to drive 20,000 miles without needing to replace your car’s air filter. On the other hand, suppose you live in a city that undergoes perpetual construction. Dust and dirt are an ever-present part of the immediate environment. In that case, you may be able to drive 10,000 miles before needing a replacement part.

The more dust and debris that is in the air or kicked up on the road, the more frequently you’ll need to buy a replacement. This is the reason why you should only use your owner’s manual as a guide. The automaker has no way to know whether you’re driving your car in extremely dusty conditions or not.

The Age Of Fuel Injection Systems

Newer vehicles are not equipped with carburetors; fuel injection systems have taken their place. The benefits of the fuel injection is that it is a more efficient tool to blend air and fuel for combustion. That allows your car engine to perform with greater fuel efficiency. The problem is that a clogged filter can play havoc with the system. Even though your car’s computer will attempt to recalibrate the mixture based upon available airflow, the ratio is imprecise. As a result, fuel efficiency plummets and your engine’s performance is hampered.

Invest A Few Extra Dollars

When it’s time to buy a new air filter, spend a few extra dollars and invest in quality. A high-quality replacement will generally cost less than $20, yet its overall impact can be enormous. It is designed to keep dirt and other particles away from your engine to prevent damage an increase performance. It will also affect your vehicle’s fuel efficiency.

You should also check for clogging in your air filter every time you have the oil changed. You may not need to swap it out, but at such a low cost, it’s far better to err on the conservative side.
