Anyone who drives on national roads with having proper cover is not only doing so illegally but is risking everything. Despite this 1 in 10 drivers in the UK and US take to roads without it and put both themselves and others in all sorts of danger. Lets look at 3 of the main problems that will soon be coming your way if you ignore the law and choose to drive without proper cover.

Penalties. If you get found without insurance there are a number of different penalty options that you can have thrown at you depending on where you are driving. One of the most common penalties is getting points put onto your licence, which will then cause you premiums to increase, may effect other types of insurance you have and can even cause employment issues. For example, if you want to take a driving job, you will more than likely need to have completely clean licence. In most cases a fine will be slapped on your as well, which unfortanatly will more certainly be a greater amount that your insurance premiums would have been. Damage. Should you have an accident and not be insured, you will learn very quickly about how expensive damage to vehicles can be to put right. Not only will you be forking out for any damages inflicted to your own vehicle but if your to blame for the accident then you could be picking up the bill for a number of other people’s vehicles. Environmental costs can be imposed on you also for things like damage to road signs and even plant life.

Medical costs. If the worst case scenario takes place and either yourself of someone else gets injured by your uninsured vehicle, the costs could be even steeper. Medical costs tend to spiral quite rapidly and can go on for years after the accident when people claim for ongoing physio or operation costs. At the end of the day it is really a lot cheaper to get insurance in the first place, as opposed to facing the inevitable fees
